Life Saving Transplants For Two Children in the Milwaukee Area

Parker Scaife and Kennedy Kiefer both have received life saving kidney transplants from their mothers and have collaborated with the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA).

Prior to his transplant, Parker was on a 12 hour home dialysis treatment called peritoneal dialysis. His is life changed when he received his life-saving transplant in 2010 from his mother Lindsay. Parker now lives a healthy and happy life as a 4 year old.

Kennedy Kiefer was born October 6, 2009, and lost her first kidney to Wilm's tumor at 8 months old. Her kidney removed due to the cancer. Now at 3 she has a rare genetic disorder that has affected her only remaining kidney, making her kidney fail. She received her mother’s kidney in a life saving transplant kidney on July 11, 2013.

The Scaife family has helped the Kiefers with guidance and advice throughout this transplant process. Both families have jointed with COTA to help raise funds for transplant-related expenses. With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure.  The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses.

Volunteers are needed to assist with fundraising activities that will help with transplant-related expenses.  Individuals and groups interested in more information can contact Community Coordinator Kristin Schendel at 414.791.8028 or krismomthree@yahoo.com.  Media representatives may contact the campaign Public Relations Coordinators Kim Woyach 262-498-9989 or woyachk@gmail.com  and Lesley Fletcher at 414.659.2535 or lesleyann5@aol.com for more information about the family or the COTA community fundraising campaign. Our current fundraiser will be:
